  • 2012 Missouri Legislative Update
  • May Meeting Update

Spring Break has concluded for the Missouri General Assembly, and now four weeks remain before the constitutionally-mandated end of the session at 6:00 p.m. on May 18th. Similar to past sessions, the budget deficit has dictated a majority of the discussions and steered the legislature in the direction of what is possible under a $500 million budget hole.

First 2012 Promotion Committee Meeting

Thank you all for coming to our first 2012 Promotion Committee meeting

In attendance were Mike Larkin, Mark Flynn, Mike Pflaum, Doug Cohee, Evan Schnegelberger, Shawna Cook.

Items discussed as follows

GKCMCA promotional booklet:

This was passed around and reviewed as it has been a while since we looked at it.

Comments were two things: We need more pictures and we should publish in an electronic format, on a CD, rather than a booklet. This way we could distribute many more for a more cost effective distribution.

Round Table discussions:

We also discussed ideas on what groups we needed to target to promote masonry. The 4 top groups seemed to be Architects, School Districts, Municipalities, and General Contractors.

Discussed also was how to promote masonry. After many good ideas, it was decided that probably the best way of promoting would to be team up with other organizations and put together a presentation to the above groups, tailored to each specific group, as each one may have different areas that need to be addressed.

GKCMCA could present the presentation, give a brief introduction of who we are, present the selected material, and have a short Q&A after the presentation. It would be nice if 3 or 4 contractors were represented for the answer portion. We would ask for questions before the presentation, so we could be prepared with proper answers. This would be done most likely on a power point type format.

AIA has asked if we could give a presentation to their organization. This would have to be an accredited presentation for credits. This did not seem to be a problem, as we have members with accreditation.

Mark Flynn is getting with the AIA about scheduling, and what topic in specific, if any, they want to hear about.  We are thinking May or June time frame.

Our goal is to have one presentation per quarter, 4 per year.

We also discussed trying to get some GC’s on board, possibly having a GC night at a regular meeting, to promote the masons within the association.

Heartland Brick Council

Feb. 17th Mike Larkin and Bill Osborne met with Aaron Steele and Wade Wagner of the Heartland Brick Council. The purpose was to discuss if there was any way our two organizations could team up and promote masonry in the KC area.

They were very receptive to the idea, and would like to team up. We could forward leads to them and they would respond to them. They would also help in other ways. More discussions are needed, but it sound very promising.

Will we get IMI participation ? Mike to talk to Don Hunt

All Committee members should be thinking of other organizations and speakers we could team up with so we can compile a list to draw from.

Our next meeting will be on March 22, at the Golden Ox at 3:30.

Planned discussion will be on our first presentation to the AIA group.

Thanks again

Sincerely, Michael P. Larkin
